I Not Tired

Our daily naptime routine.
"Bear, it's time for nap."
"But Mom, I not tired."

Followed by 10 minutes of negotiation. Followed by a nap.
But yesterday I decided to forgo the fight and let him stay up.
(This photo was taken 20 minutes after naps official start time)

I win.

Mornings with Bear

Imagination.

While raising a 3-year-old definitely has it's challenges, my favorite part is his imagination. The excitement over being different characters, creating things with his brothers and playing "guys". Tricycle rides around the neighborhood include stopping to look at every little thing that catches his eye. A million questions about how, what and why.

I have to admit, Spiderman makes the sneaky poops in the underwear and drawn out bedtimes a little easier to take. Today I'm going to enjoy 3 for all that it is because I'll have a 4-year-old before I know it.

Clean Up on Aisle 8.

Bear and I are under the weather today. I knew we were heading in that direction when Bear caused a "clean up on aisle 8!" at Walgreens. It was all downhill after that.

Bear's currently in bed and I'm sharing the couch with Tiger while attempting to learn "couponing". It's a verb. I've decided that in my mind I'm still too cool for a mini-van but not too cool to save a bunch of cash with coupons. Plus, I'm going to dress really cute when I go to the grocery store so I can help couponing's image.

Anyways....here are a few recent Bear-isms just in case you're having a day like ours.

After his friend Porter missed a catch the other day while playing, Bear told him "You gotta keep your eye on the ball". Solid advice.

Bear tried calling John's cell yesterday. After getting John's voicemail he said, "Dad's not answering. He must be busy at work building legos." Something like that, right John?

After getting home from shopping for snacks the other day, he called out from the living room, "Hey Mom, can you get me some Pirate Tootie?"

Bear-isms

He's been letting 'em fly lately. Daily (and nightly) doses of humor. Just for me.

When faced with sliced celery on his plate last week. "Mom, only the Wonder Pets eat celery." Good point.

While watching a movie this morning. "Mom, you've got some popcorn making to do." Yes, boss.

He got his long curls buzzed off a few days ago. About 2 am last night I woke up to his crying. When I got into his room he was still asleep, rubbing his head and saying "my hair is gone!!!"

It's an adventure around here.

Weekend Re-Cap

Lots of action around here this weekend! Saturday's project (bunkbeds) turned into Monday morning stitches. Bear slipped off the bottom rung of the ladder and ended up with four stitches in his chin. He was such a good boy at the hospital that they gave him a multi-pack of HotWheels. Hip hip for Rady Children's!

Lincoln was the coolest wise man ever on Sunday morning. We called him Head Wise Man since his counterparts were half his size and needed much direction. Bear and Ben joined in at the end as jingle-bell-singing-sheep. Total chaos, but totally cute.

Capped off this amazing weekend last night with a trip to the Boat Light Parade on San Diego Bay. The first sail boat was awesome! We were so excited! And then they cancelled the parade due to rain. (Seattle friends and family, you would have been ashamed at the amount of rain that cancelled this parade. SO pathetic)

Looking forward to a fun, low-key week before Christmas. Hope you've got some fun things planned.

The Boss

We tried cheerios in the toilet, toys on the back of the toilet, candy bribery, a toy basket. You name it, we tried it. All we got back in response was "I like to poop in my diaper".

Monday morning Bear announced, "I wear underwear now." And he has ever since. End of story.

Bear-isms

Bear started his new preschool this week at Lincoln and Ben's elementary. Five minutes into his first hour there he turned to me and said "Mom, will you go home now please?" At least he's polite.

Yesterday in the car we were discussing what we were going to do when we got home. Lunch, playtime, nap.  Bear : "Sounds like a plan."

Today I expressed my frustration with someone on the road with a growl. Bear asked. "Mom, what's the problem?"

Three going on 15. Yikes.

Three Cheers for Bear

I've loved so many things about being home with my boys, but my favorite has been the sweet time I have alone with my baby boy. Even more precious now that he's a big three year old. How did this happen so fast?

My Harrison. Hare Bear. Bearykins. Bear. You made our family complete. You have the best of all of us rolled into one. We love every minute with you. Even the ones where you boss us all around. Stomping your little foot demanding a show and fruit snacks. But you quickly see the error of your ways, and beg forgiveness with a snuggle.

Happy, happy birthday baby boy.

Tent Maker

Combine a rainy week and a two-year-old, and that equals tents. Pretty much every kind. Pillow tents, mommy's bed tents, big tents for watching cartoons, little tents for hiding from your brothers, and poop tents (don't ask). Hours of tent making fun. I happily oblige because I know these tent requests won't last forever.

My favorite compliment these days is "Cool tent, mom". Nice.

So Big

Fun weekend around here...picnic, friends and being together.

Harrison had a great one-liner this weekend. One of his favorite things is to stand on the scale and have us get excited about how much he weighs.

Yesterday he walked in on me standing on the scale and enthusiastically asked, "Mommy, are you so big?"  Nice.

Bedtime

We did it. Sold the crib and moved over to the big boy bed. It's been somewhat anti-climactic. Nap times have sometimes turned into "i can reach my toys now, so why would I stay in bed" times. Two falls out of bed around midnight. And the "bedtime guy" selection has become a bit longer. (see below)

All in all, pretty smooth transition. Except all this growing up makes my heart hurt a bit.

"Is this all you have to offer? I'm not feeling it."

Harrison's Preschool

Harrison's preschool fundraiser this weekend included a 30 minute medley of tunes, sung by 50 under 5-year-olds. Awesome

But the best part for me was how into the songs Harrison was and how he knew parts of all, but not one in full.

Who still knows the words to this Barney favorite?

Comic Relief

After a grueling moving day, we all needed a few laughs. Promptly supplied by Harrison at lunch yesterday. Like father, like son. Will do anything for a laugh!

Oh, two.

Dear Ms. Monica,

Although I love this boy more than words can express, I also really love dropping him off at your pre-school. If you could see the two of us at Target, Starbucks or really any other store when the tantrum hits, you'd know why. Over seemingly little things, like the splitting of a cupcake, the 2 year old Jeckle and Hyde rears its ugly head. Flat on the floor, nose to the linoleum, sobbing gigantic tears and screaming about the injustice of the world.

I love that he can't even take the time to give me a hug as he runs to get to your playground. There are no tears on arrival or departure. You don't complain about his daily diaper blowouts. You dress up for work. And your staff has been there loving kids for 25 years.

Hats off to you Ms. Monica.

From the bottom of my heart,

Harrison's Mom

Tea Collection

The third boy gets his share of hand-me-downs. But occasionally the Bear gets something new. Usually it's things that are on sale, and then marked down from that sale price :) But on our way back to the car today Bear and I peeked into Style Child. My favorite clothing label for kids, Tea, had this adorable hoodie for $12. Sold. Check out their blog here.

Bear is a lady killer in turquoise.

400th post

"Yeah, this is my mom's 400th post. Go mom. I really love this blog. Especially the days when my mom poses me doing things I tolerate, but don't really like (see above). I'd do anything for the blog. I'm sure someday I'll appreciate this online record of my life. Or at least my wife will."
