Carmelized Onion Dip

My favorite new Thanksgiving recipe this year was gone before dinner even started. I guess anything with caramelized onions and cream cheese would be good, but this was UNFORGETTABLE. (Yes, I did just use all caps and I meant it) Every party at my house from now on will be started with this dip. Try it. You'll never go back to onion dip from the sour cream section again.

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • medium onions, thinly sliced
  • kosher salt and black pepper
  • 1 8-ounce bar cream cheese, at room temperature
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh chives
  • thick-cut potato and vegetable chips, for serving

Directions

  1. Melt the butter in a large skillet over medium-low heat. Add the onions and ½ teaspoon salt and cook, stirring occasionally, until deep golden brown, 30 to 35 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool.
  2. In a medium bowl, mix together the onions, cream cheese, sour cream, chives, ¼ teaspoon salt, and ⅛ teaspoon pepper. Serve with the chips.

sounds mighty yummy! I have to try this with our 6 foot sub we order for Christmas Eve. I am a vegetarian now as I have been weaning myself off meat for 5 years. Oh I feel so much more healthier and happy. :)

I raise, hens, geese, roosters, ducks, turkeys etc.
and a partridge in a pear tree.
can you imagine all of us on one Christmas card? LOL

We usually do the tub of Sour Cream with the French Onion soup mix. Are you saying that your recipe might be better than that?
