Comfort Food

I've always wanted to have a couch at my dining room table. Is that strange? We decided to re-arrange furniture this week and I finally had the opportunity to move my camelback slip-covered couch to the dining room. (Yes, it's white. No, the kids will not be eating on it!) While I love the modern lines of my dining table, bench and chairs, I really like how the couch softens it up.

We gave it a trial run last night for a dinner party and it received rave reviews. It was especially fun to lounge on after dinner with coffee and dessert.

What do you think? Would you have a couch in your dining room?

Anniversary

Two years ago this weekend, we arrived in San Diego and hoped someday it would feel like home. Fast forward to today, and it not only feels like home, I can't image being anywhere else. We invited friends over this weekend to celebrate the anniversary of our big move.

We put in all of dining table's leaves, brought out every chair and plate we own, and enjoyed each other's company all evening. The menu included Bruchetta, Olive bread from Bread and Cie, Spicy Cioppino over linguine, and Panzella salad. Some bottles of good red wine, and Strawberry Fraise for dessert finished off the evening.

We had so much fun, it's going to become a monthly event. San Diego is a beautiful place to live, but it feels like home because of people like this.

The Giant Peach Party

Sunday night was the Giant Peach's party inauguration.

End-of-the-year dinner for 35 College Young Life leaders. It was a great night and the Giant Peach's yard got a little make-over before the big debut. New river rock and square paver patio (via John). Vines, plants and bark. So exciting.

Menu: Flatbread with Pine-nut Hummus, Wedge Salad with Creamy Buttermilk Dressing, Sausage & Basil Lasagna, Roasted Asparagus with Creamy Gratin Sauce, & Honey Orange Panna Cotta with Fresh Berries. Yum.

Bring it on Martha.
