New Year's Day | Tamale Making Party

Besides watching football, New Year's Day is always a bit of a slow end to the holiday season. This year we happily attended Andi & Beston's 2nd Annual tamale making party. (after a bit of football watching, of course...the end of fantasy football, horray!)

Everyone brings a favorite tamale filling or drink (homemade horchata, yum), and they provided the masa and banana leaves. We marked the tamales with different color paper so you knew what you were about to bite into. Add beans and salad on the side, and it's the perfect activity + meal for a big crowd. Fun to get to know people as you talk and wrap tamales together.

Feliz Año Nuevo! Here's to a tamale making tradition...

Weekend Re-Cap

We took full advantage of this holiday weekend, packing it full of fun things to avoid letting the cold weather keep us down. The boys and I headed out to the Children's museum Saturday morning (along with 1/2 of San Diego apparently!).

After we exhausted every activity there, we headed home for a quick snooze before getting ready for the Barnett's tamale-making party. My favorite part of the weekend! Not as challenging as I previously thought, so fun with a big group and cool to have a bunch of filling options and make up your own favorites. If you're interested in learning how, here's a link.

We started out with a slow Sunday morning, and ended up having crepes for lunch at Cafe Madeline in South Park. Add in multiple trips to different parks, and some delicious Mushroom Barley soup to warm us up, and tuesday arrived far too quickly.

Cheers to extra days off and time with family. Happy Wednesday!
