Found

I've been getting some "alone time" on Saturday mornings. Getting up early to get a Starbucks and drive around the neighborhood looking for treasures. A few to keep, some to share. This past weekend I found some great things. Here are three of my favorites...

Pretty distressed dresser. It's already being put to good use as a friend's TV stand.

Keeping this antique wood surf board for myself. Maybe kitchen wall?

This adorable owl hasn't found a permanent place in the house yet, but I'm still looking for just the right spot. So 1975 pottery class.

Treasure Hunt

I consider myself a decent bargain hunter. But when I'm with my long-time friend Richele, I realize I'm still a novice. She sees potential in everything. If you're in Chandler, AZ anytime soon, check out her booth at Merchant Square. We hit the streets at 7am on Saturday looking for deals. After striking out in my part of town, we moved over to Point Loma. Here's a sample of our finds...

1. Richele had to talk me into this leather Cost Plus club chair and ottoman for $15. I listed in on Craigslist to sell, but I'm currently sitting in it as I write this post. Probably a keeper.

2. Sweet cottage-style coffee table. Great detailing. Selling it for $40.

3. Love this pot-rack, although my kitchen is too small for one. Thinking about painting it a funky color then hanging it in another part of the house. Any ideas of other things I could display on it?

4. Bear and I were riding our bike to Starbucks later in the day and picked this up map of the West Indies in the "free" pile in someone's yard. The home owner told me it hung in her father's office for 25 years. The back-story to things makes me like them even more. It's perfect for my living room.

What treasures have you found lately?

Decorating Casa de Byard - Part 1

Since we've reached our one year mark here in San Diego, our lease was up.
We decided to stay in our cute rental on Dale St. and I finally got permission to paint!
(You know me and my paint addiction)

So, along with the painting came the bedroom switcheroo.
Harrison & Ben became roomies in our previous space.
Lincoln got the "under the eaves" nursery.
John and I moved into the master bedroom with ginormous closet. Right on.

Moving of course called for re-decorating on a budget. Some items moved locations, some were picked up at yard sales, some in the end cap clearance section at Target.

I'll post one room a week until I run out. At which point I'll have to start over...
(I hope John doesn't read this)

First up: Ben & Harrison's sunny retreat.

View from my sewing room.
With the windows open, this room feels like a treehouse.
Found this Land of Nod (crate & barrels childrens shop) table & chairs on craigslist - 50.
Wooden snake pull toy - yard sale - 3. & monster bobblehead - target - 10.

Pottery Barn wooden wall art - yard sale - 10.
Paint : Yolo Colorhouse - Little Yolo for kids, called Sprout - Color is .01
Fabric Flags from Harrison's nursery
Chalkboard wall circles - Target - 25.
Dr. Seuss Wooden Plaque - Domestic Bliss - 25.

Tag Sale Treasure - San Diego Style

What do you think of these treats?

First time out...not too shabby.
And I even found my way home after the hunt.

Mr. Entrepeneur

We're growing up a salesman here at the Byard house. Lincoln sold enough coffee, OJ and donuts to get Princess Leia (fattest hamster of all time) a new cage and some new tunnels. One small problem, the hamster's behind is too big to get through the tunnels. How do you put a hamster on a diet? That's a new one.

Yard Sale complete...the packing continues.

John's the official coffee & donut "tester.
