Big Heart

I don't know if all 7-year-olds are this way, but Lincoln can go from Mr. Sassy Mouth to Mr. Big Hearted in 60 seconds flat. One minute I want to drive over his Wii in the driveway and the next I want to kiss his sweet little freckled face for being so kind and lovable. Mood swings for both of us I guess.

He came home from school the other day and told me some kids in his class were teasing him about Ben. I knew we'd eventually go down this road, but first week of school? Seriously. He said he didn't know what to do. We discussed appropriate ways to tell kids not to tease Ben, and how to explain what Down Syndrome is so they can understand. Lincoln was very mature about it, and I could see how hurt he was that kids would tease his brother.

But the best part of the conversation for me was when he said,
"And if they don't stop teasing him, I'll just kick 'em in the shin."

Hard to argue with that reasoning.

Friday Night

On a day like today, it's time to hit the streets. Stroller. Check. Newsie hat. Check. Incredibly slow walk around the neighborhood looking at every leaf, in every hole and stopping to talk with every person. Check.

The perfect start to the weekend. Check.

Dog Pile

I used to LOVE playing dog pile when I was a kid...especially if there was someone bigger than me around so I didn't have to be on the bottom! There's something just so fun about a pile of laughing bodies. Ben (#2 from the top) wasn't so sure about the pile-up and Harrison (top of the pile) just looks shocked...
I like to try to control the wrestling a bit...my 5 year old, Lincoln, loves to blind-side me and cut me off at the knees. Or karate chop every part of my body. Ouch.
I made a discovery the other day about my boys' feet. Harrison, 6 months, has bigger feet than Ben who's 3 1/2 years! Harrison's are on the big side, and Ben's are on the "oh so small" side. Great for sharing shoes...
On our way to Flagstaff in the morning for our summer vacation in the cool north. I'll post some pics of the "wilderness" this weekend.

Mother's Day Weekend Fun...

Lots of fun this weekend at the Byard house...this pic is from Lincoln's last basketball game. John took over as coach a few weeks ago and a 5 and 6 year old basketball team is like herding squirrels. Lots of tears when the ball gets taken away!
After the big game, I got to go to the opening of Domestic Bliss's new design workshop, Blissful Living. It was so fun! Lots of great workshops to make fun stuff and learn new things. Check out the schedule on their website www.blissfullivingstudio.com
I'm starting with yoga tomorrow!

John and I got to go away for our first night away from the baby. I got 9 hours of sleep! I feel like a new woman....the best mothers day gift!
It was good to get home and see my little guys...check out Harrison asleep sitting up. So comfy in his bumbo and cowboy onesie! John and Lincoln made me dinner, a "fancy" chef salad....Lincoln was so cute about it, and pretty yummy. :)
Hope you had a wonderful Mother's Day too...
