Miniature Master Bedroom

One of the Giant Peach's downsides is the teeny, tiny master bedroom. It's actually not the master, but the boys are sharing that room, so this is it.

Upsides are the beautiful, big windows, L-shaped window seat, and wood floors. Challenges are the size of the room and the microscopic closet.
I've been assessing the situation since we moved in and I've got a plan.

1. John has agreed to join me in building the upholstered bed, similar to the one above. He'll cut and assemble, I'll upholster in grey linen fabric. Sticking with the white hotel-style bedding we have.

2. I've been waiting for this dresser to go on sale at IKEA. It's a pretty charcoal grey with white handles. Perfect. And will really help with the distribution of the clothes that don't fit into the tiny closet.

3. I'm having our local thrift gold mine, Pat's, assemble a vintage pedestal table for me. I pick out the top and pedestal. They build and paint the color of my choice. For cheap! This will be in front of the window seat for a seating space.

4. Sheer window treatments to soften the windows.

4. Decorate with throw pillows, window seat cushions, valances and picture frames done in these fabrics.

I'll post when it's finished! Wish me luck...

Bedroom Make-over Progress

I love this fabric so much, I'd like to write it a poem, or buy it some chocolates or something, corny, I know. But I'm serious, it's so much more gorgeous in person than it was on the internet. I made this down pillow tonight to put on top of my hotel bed, and re-covered my desk chair seat. Just enough left for something small.

Bedroom is so close to done, but not quite...John's coming home on monday so I'll finish up this weekend. It's quite lovely.

Hotel Bed

One of my favorite things to do is go for a night to a swanky hotel with my husband. Since we don't get to do that so often anymore, I'm going for that look and feel at home. Do you think I'm getting there? I made this duvet cover last night out of 600 thread count sheets (Tuesday Morning rocks) and a down comforter. I added an extra thick mattress pad and new sheets over top of that. New pillows and tailored bed skirt. I'll add a little color with pillows when my fabric gets here, but what do you think so far? It totally feels like the Biltmore to me.

Sneak Preview

So, the progress on the master bedroom re-model is going a little slower than anticipated (three kids & husband in Africa!) so I thought I'd give you a sneak preview of some of the elements I've added so far. Thanks for the opinions on fabric, Ladies. I'm excited about the Anna Maria Horner print above for accents. It's on it's way from online fabric land. Floor is in, and paint is up. Lots of details left. John will be so happy that I'm using these vintage architectural prints from his family. And that I got all new linens for our now comfy bed. I'm thinking what he's sleeping on in Africa is not so comfy, so he's in for a real treat when he gets home.

Still open for comments or input on this project!

Fabric Vote

Vote please! I need to choose two of these fun prints to coordinate with my prints in the last post. What do you think? Going for fun & eclectic...but not tacky. These will probably be pillows and other accents. Previous post has dots for valances and scroll fabric for     headboard. Thanks for your opinion!

(thanks for pointing me towards mermaids Amber)

Orange is the new Chocolate Brown

Look at these gorgeous Amy Butler fabrics for my bedroom makeover...I'm thinking headboard & pillows? Need something for above the wooden shades still...any suggestions?

If you'd have asked me in the 90's if I'd ever like orange again, I would have said hands down no, but I'm LOVING orange right now..

Husband's Away Home Make-Over

Ok, for some bizarre reason, whenever my husband is out of town for any length of time I feel the need to redecorate. It's fun to suprise him and he doesn't have to stress out or give me too much input in the process.
He's on to me though...here's our conversation before he left for Africa yesterday.

John "So, which room of the house will you be re-decorating while I'm gone?"
Me "Honey, I have three kids now, I'll be busy"
John "So, which room of the house will you be re-decorating?
Me "Oh, don't be silly"

So, it's the master bedroom. Not bad before, just getting bored with it, and the gross carpet had to go.
Check back for the "after" pictures in a few days...

Sage Green walls...nasty carpet...boring curtains...nothing special
