Everybody Has One
A junk drawer. Don't pretend you don't have one. It's the place you shove things when you need your counters clean quick. Catch all for the miscellaneous items that you don't have a place for, yet you want to know where it is. Problem is, when you need the item it takes 1/2 hour and a few choice words to dig it out.
Today's project was organizing the junk drawer. This mess was produced rather quickly since we just moved here in February. But it's a big drawer and there was an large amount of junk in there. Here's how I did it in 20 minutes.
1. Made three piles : Throw away, Find a new home, Back in the drawer. (HGTV)
2. Mercilessly added things to the throw away pile. NO PAPER, except a notepad, can go back in the drawer.
3. Put everything in the "new home" pile away. (longest step)
4. Wiped drawer. Arranged these Made Smart containers in drawer. (Target)
5. Arranged remaining items by category.
Afterwards, Lincoln said to me. "Mom, it's not even a junk drawer anymore." That's the idea.

Harrison had a great one-liner this weekend. One of his favorite things is to stand on the scale and have us get excited about how much he weighs.
Yesterday he walked in on me standing on the scale and enthusiastically asked, "Mommy, are you so big?" Nice.

Odds and Ends
It's officially summer. We'll be trying out these Rootbeer Float Cupcakes this weekend.
I was coveting this toy pull cart I saw on the playground this week. Good news is that it's 12.99 at Toys R Us!
We've been watching the Toy Story 3 trailer in our house. I won't judge you if the first part makes you cry.
I had a six year relationship with LOST. I was one of the committed. Still thinking about how it ended. Wish I had thought to celebrate it like NotMartha.
My kitchen is a little dull. Thinking about something bold with this New York canvas. It would take up a whole wall!
Hope you have a weekend full of fun. We'll be ending the little league season with a picnic and adult softball game (i'm horrible!), a few playdates, and some friends are bringing food to our house to treat us to a BBQ!

Green Clutch
I love my new clutch style wallet from Target. It has just enough space inside for my essentials, but not enough space to carry my receipts from 1995. Couldn't find it in their online store, probably because the best part about this wallet was that it was on clearance. (don't you love that you only have to wait 5 minutes for the item of your desire to go on sale at Target?)

New Jersey Diner
Protecting the Mac
There are very few items in my home that I would be heart broken over losing. My MacBook is one of those few. It's not that's it's special. Or has even performed that well. (three burned-out hard drives and one electrical system. Why didn't anyone tell me you aren't supposed to put your laptop on your LAP?)
But it's the piece of equipment that truly launched me into the 21st century.
It's seen better days. Now that it will only be making trips to Starbucks and back, I feel the need to pamper it a bit. "Pretty up" it's scratched white case with something a little more honoring. So, here are a few choices.
Leather MacBook Case | the most expensive option, but for good reason. I think this is the kind of bag people stop to ask you about.
Retro MacBook Sleeve | skip the "bag" altogether, and just go with the under the arm sleeve. I love this retro silver leather style.

Here's one of my new favorites. Francis Ford Coppola's Rosso. It's their "everyday dinner" wine. This one is a blend of Zinfandel, Syrah and Cabernet Savignon. It was very full bodied and didn't taste like it cost 6.99. Try it. Found it at Trader Joe's.

Green Veggie Omelette
The only way I get through when I'm eating low carb is to make meals that fill me up. One of my favorites is to this "green" omelette, full of good veggies and topped with feta cheese.
I like to include spinach, avocado, cilantro, asparagus and green onions.
Cut the asparagus into 1 inch pieces, chop the green onions and saute together with cooking spray or olive oil.
Whip 2 or 3 eggs with 1/2 cup milk and add to the sauteed veggies.
Cook until eggs are about 1/2 way done. Add spinach and cilantro and continue to cook. Remove from heat.
After plating your eggs, add diced or sliced avocado and sprinkle feta or sharp cheddar over the top. Enjoy!
Solo Mom Weekend
Thursday night John headed to Arizona for his "guys weekend", aka golf, poker and greasy mexican food. I geared up for fun-mom weekend. Here's the scoop.
I picked Lincoln up from school on friday and we discussed celebration options for my last day of work. He suggested making brownies, which I thought was an appropriate welcome to my new professional home-maker status.
Saturday morning included some pajama bubble time, and an hour packing up for a beach picnic. We did a Target run to spend Lincoln's savings in the Lego aisle. (1/2 hour in the Lego aisle with three boys. Got the visual?)
We finally made it to the beach at noon. Harrison decided he didn't want any sand on his feet, which is fairly hard to do when you're at THE BEACH. So he spent some time crying on the blanket while sandcastles were built and sand was thrown. Lincoln asked to be buried in the sand, which we followed up with a huge water fight.
After a Sunday morning walk to Starbucks and play time in the yard, I spent the rest of the day telling Lincoln to stop bugging Harrison. I'm trying to teach Harrison to say "no thank you" to Lincoln instead of screaming. Is that ridiculous? Probably. But I have high hopes.
John arrived at 6:49 pm. (yes, I know the exact time) The best part of John going out of town is when he comes back through the front door.
